Swindon Advertiser Prospect@Home Appeal…because what we do is not enough. On 2 November 2006 our local newspaper, the Swindon Advertiser, put its full weight behind a campaign to raise £250,000 towards the launch in 2007 of our Prospect@Home service. Chief Executive Vicki Morrey says: “We have listened closely to hundreds of patients and their families as they told us about their experiences and their hopes. The one thing that is clear is that for people who are living with a growing sense of loss, having real choice and control over what happens to them at the end of life is crucial.”
For most people, staying in their own home surrounded by familiar things and people they love is most important of all. Prospect@Home will provide expert, flexible, responsive and reliable home based care up to 24 hours a day. At the launch of the Adver appeal, editor Mark Waldron called on the people of Swindon to show their long-standing generosity once more. He said: “The fantastic care and support given by the Prospect Hospice is something that has or will touch the lives of most people in Swindon. It is truly a local charity which we can all be proud of and we can measure the fondness our readers have for it by the amount they generously donate every year. From today we will be doing all we can to ensure that this much-needed service is provided sooner rather than later.” The Adver is featuring regular articles based on the experiences of family members of patients who have been cared for by the Hospice. The Adver has also interviewed staff members from Prospect who have outlined the benefits Prospect@Home will bring to the patients, and their families, who they meet on a day-to-day basis. We are confident that, with the generous support of our friends at the Adver, our local community will recognise the true value of this much needed new service.
