Swindon Shimmyers latest fundraising takes total over £3,000

It was our pleasure earlier this week to welcome Sue Dickinson from the Swindon Shimmyers to Prospect Hospice, when she brought a fantastic donation of £385 raised by the annual ‘Hafla’ she organises each year.

A hafla is a belly-dancing occasion, and with the help of her own group and others from across the local area, Sue and her friends have organised the annual celebration, raising hundreds of pounds each year towards our care. At this year’s event, held earlier this month, more than 80 people attended, enjoying performances from the Swindon Shimmyers and seven other groups. Funds were boosted by a raffle and ticket sales for the event. The event, held at St Immanuel’s Church on Upham Road was the ninth hafla of its kind, and brought the total raised over the years to more than £3,000.

“I’m so pleased that we were able to raise so much again this year and I would like to thank everyone who came along and supported this year’s hafla,” Sue said. “I’ve been belly dancing for years now and I love it, and we would be delighted to hear from other ladies who would be interested in joining the Swindon Shimmyers.”

Community Fundraiser Chris Parkinson said: “We are very appreciative of Sue and the Swindon Shimmyers and everyone who has supported the hafla for their incredible commitment to Prospect Hospice over the years. It’s an amazing achievement to have raised more than £3,000 – funds that have made a real difference for the patients and carers who have sought our help over the years. Our thanks go out to them, and best wishes for next year’s Hafla.”
