When someone is very ill, the whole family is often affected, and it is often the case that people find themselves facing a set of practical, financial and emotional difficulties. At such times, our Family Support Team can help.
We have an expert and experienced team of specialist social workers who help patients, their families and their carers to adjust emotionally and practically to the impact of their illness. The team provides family support, advocacy, practical planning and children’s advice, either at the Hospice or at patient’s homes. They can also provide information on legal issues such as wills, lasting powers of attorney and parental guardianship.
The team also includes a welfare benefits adviser, to help families who are anxious or worried about money and how they are going to make ends meet. Our adviser helps by ensuring people receive the benefits they are entitled to, and can also assist by acting on their behalf on housing issues.
