Light up a Life
Our annual Light up a Life service takes place at the hospice at 4:30pm on Sunday 3 December. It’s an opportunity for hundreds of people from across our community to gather to remember special people from our lives who sadly won’t be with us this Christmas.
Remember someone you love
Who you remember is personal to you, whether it’s a family member, friend or colleague, their life can be honoured at our special event that brings together people remembering their loved ones this Christmas while supporting their local hospice. There will be traditional carols, festive readings and an especially poignant moment during the service when our Christmas tree, which stands proudly at the front of the hospice over the festive period, is lit with each of the lights representing the life of someone special. Please, if you can, support our appeal by making a donation to Prospect Hospice and dedicating a light in memory of someone you love at Light up a Life.
Your support will light up the lives of patients and their families
The money that will be raised through our Light up a Life appeal goes towards us being able to care for more local people through our services for patients and their families. Last year, mostly through the support of our local community, we were able to care for and support more than 6,600 people, as patients or their family members. Here’s how your donation this year could help:
£27 pays for an hour of care for a patient in their own home from our Prospect@Home team
£50 pays for a patients carer to come to a Carers’ Café, giving them the opportunity to see members of our Family Support team and spend time with other carers in the same situation
£124 pays for two patients to attend our Day Therapy service, providing opportunities for symptom control sessions, rehabilitation services, complementary therapies and social activities
Please help us care this Christmas by donating and dedicating a light on our Christmas tree. If you would like to remember someone special as part of our Light up a Life service, please complete the attached form confirming your attendance. On the same form, please also include the names of those you would like to remember in our Book of Remembrance, which will be displayed during the service and then at the hospice and in our outreach centre in Marlborough throughout December. Please return the form attached to this letter, complete with their details, your personal message and your donation by Friday 24 November.
Once we have received your response you will be sent a memory tag, on which you are invited to write a personal message for a loved one. All of the completed tags will be displayed on our trees throughout December for patients and visitors to admire over the Christmas period.
There will be a park and ride service, provided by Thamesdown Transport, running from Nationwide House on Pipers Way. Please note there will be very limited disabled parking at the hospice, and places will be allocated in advance. There will be no additional parking at Prospect Hospice on the day. Please contact 01793 816161 to reserve one of these spaces should you need it.
