Parachute for Prospect

Prospect Hospice is now taking bookings for its fourth Parachute for Prospect event at Redlands Airfield, Wanborough, on 6 March 2011.

The event, which sees thirty or so thrill-seekers take part in a Tandem Skydive from 10,000ft, has proved so popular over the last few years that the March event smashed its target for fundraising, raising £20,000, and the September date is already sold out.

“Sixty people will have parachuted for Prospect by the end of the year, and I was lucky enough to take part in March,” said Prospect Fundraiser Julie Brogan. “I was so impressed by the commitment and bravery of our skydivers last year that I decided there and then that I would do it myself – and I’m petrified of heights! But it was truly an amazing experience – something I’ll never forget.”

She’s not stopped talking about it since.

“Of course there’s a serious side to the event as well, which is to raise much-needed funds for Prospect. It’s thanks to the hard work and generosity of all the participants that we managed to raise such a fantastic amount.”

But Parachute for Prospect is not just for adrenaline junkies. This year saw people of all ages from 16 to 70 years old take part, showing that you’re never too old to do your first skydive.

“I would encourage anyone to give it a go,” said Julie. “Obviously you need to have a certain degree of fitness to take part, but the day is incredible and you’re raising money for a very good cause. And for anyone who’s still nervous at the thought, remember that the instructors are fully qualified and highly experienced and full training will be given on the day, so all you have to do is enjoy the thrill of freefalling through the skies!”

Events such as Parachute for Prospect are a vital part of the hospice’s fundraising. Each year Prospect needs £5m to deliver its care and services within the community, seventy percent of which it need to raise itself. If you’re interested in taking part in Parachute for Prospect, contact Julie Brogan in the fundraising team on 01793 816161 or email fundraising&events@prospect-hospice.net.
