Bringing care, comfort and confidence when you need our help.
For every patient who comes to Prospect Hospice for our Day Therapy, what they will experience will be different. We are here to help you stay independent, feel supported and build your confidence in readiness for the challenges you may face ahead. We’ll provide lunch and refreshments throughout the day, and you’ll spend time with other people who are also living with a life-limiting illness. You might even make some new friends – many people do – but it will be what you want to do, and at your pace.
It’s about what you want to do.
What we offer is a flexible day during which your needs come first:
- If you would like to speak with a member of our day service team about your current symptoms, that can be part of your day.
- If you need to talk, our nurse, physiotherapist or volunteer will make time for you. If you want to participate in an activity like relaxation, exercise, gardening or art therapy, then that be arranged too.
- We even offer complementary therapies such as reiki and hand massage, provided by a team of specially-trained volunteers.
But if you would prefer just to relax with us for the day, and enjoy the social occasion with other patients, then that’s fine too. It’s your day, after all!
You’ll be in control.
If that sounds a little too laid-back, there’s a serious point to the day. The time that you will spend with us, over a series of weeks and sometimes months, is designed to help support you through your illness, to maintain your independence and to boost your sense of wellbeing. Being with our team of staff and volunteers here, and taking part in some of our therapeutic and social activities, can lift your confidence and self esteem, and reduce stress and anxiety. We’ll set goals together to help you along the way. That’s something that people who have come to our day service have told us since we first began running it more than 20 years ago.
A time and place to relax.
Our Day Therapy is based at the main hospice building in Wroughton on Tuesdays and a Thursdays. If you've never visited the hospice, you might be surprised at how attractive, relaxed and accessible it is. The rooms look out onto our lovely gardens – you can spend time relaxing on our patio or walking in the gardens if you wish. We have designed the space to support your needs when you visit, and we think you will enjoy coming to spend time with us.
We’ll pick you up.
If not having transport to come to the service is what’s putting you off, then we can see to that too. We have experienced volunteers who will come out to bring you to the hospice in Wroughton. If you would prefer to arrange your own transport, there’s plenty of parking at the front of the hospice.
Most people come to our Day Therapy for up to 16 weeks, but if your needs change and you think you could benefit from accessing the service for a while longer, that might be possible too.
If you would like to see our Day Therapy for yourself, speak with your Prospect Nurse Specialist, and they will put you in touch with the Day Therapy team, who can arrange your visit. Alternatively, call the team on 01793 813355, and they will be happy to arrange it for you too.
