Caring for you

Family support

When you have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, the people closest to you are affected by it too.

Inevitably, people find themselves facing unfamiliar practical, financial and emotional difficulties. Our skilled and experienced Family Support Team can help.

We have an experienced team of social workers who help patients, their families and their carers to adjust emotionally and practically to the impact of their illness. Our expert team provides family support, advocacy, practical planning and children’s advice, either at the hospice or in patients’ homes. They can also offer guidance on legal issues such as wills, lasting powers of attorney and signposting on issues such as parental guardianship.

The team includes our family support assistants, whose role is to support families who may be anxious about money and how they will cope when faced with the challenges they face at an especially difficult time. They ensure that people understand the benefits they might be entitled to.
