This half-day session aims to increase the knowledge and practical skills of registered nurses and GPs in the use of syringe drivers. This session is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting a refresher.

The session has two parts:

Part 1: Theory

Part 2: Practical


By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand when and why syringe drivers are used
  • List the advantages and disadvantages of administering medication through a syringe driver
  • Recognise the need to communicate with the patient and those people important to them
  • Know first line medications administered via a syringe driver
  • Demonstrate how to set up and maintain a syringe driver
  • Understand the recommendations for local practice
