Prospect Paddle

Raising vital funds with every stroke

Join us for our second Prospect Paddle

Jump on board with us on Sunday 1 October as we paddleboard 11 kilometres along the River Thames from the Red Lion pub in Castle Eaton to the beautiful riverside in Lechlade. Last year was so much fun and a great challenge so we’d love to see you there again and to welcome new comers taking to the water for Prospect Hospice.

Whether you are a novice or a pro paddler, you will enjoy the spectacular scenery of the River Thames and benefit from getting active in the great outdoors, all whilst raising vital funds for Prospect Hospice.

Start times will be staggered from 9am. It’s not a race and we expect you to take around 2.5 hours to paddle along the glorious route. At the finish you will be rewarded with a warm welcome from us and all your supporters, a medal, snacks and ice cold lemonade.

We ask you to bring your own board, paddle and life jacket/buoyancy aid where possible please (these are mandatory), but we do have a limited supply to lend if needed, just let us know.

It is £20 to register and we expect this event to sell out quickly so don’t delay and sign up today. We would like you to raise a minimum sponsorship of £200 for this challenge which will help Prospect Hospice to continue providing outstanding care to our local community.

Fundraising is extremely important to us, so when you register you will automatically be set up with your fundraising page to personalise and share with all your family and friends so it’s easy to donate.

We can’t wait to see you there.

FAQs

Do I have to raise sponsorship to take part?

Yes please. This is a fundraising event to help Prospect Hospice continue to care for those at the end of their lives, and their families, in our community. We ask everyone to get as close to the £200 target as they can through their fundraising page and in other fundraising activities. We know asking for money can feel difficult at the moment as the cost of living increases, so we will do what we can to support you in your fundraising.

Do I need Paddle Board experience?

Ideally you will have had a session or two to get a feel for the board and to give yourself the confidence that you can get on it and stand on it. That said, our instructors are brilliant and will help support any novices on the day.

Who will I be with on the challenge?

You will paddle in groups of six or seven with a qualified instructor. The groups leave at staggered times throughout the morning. You can request to be in a group with other people you have signed up with and whilst it's not guaranteed, we'll do our best to keep you together in the same group or in the following group.

What do I wear?

You'll need to dress for the weather which we will help advise on at the time. Layers are always good. Trainers or pumps that you don't mind getting wet. You are required to wear a buoyancy jacket in order to take part. Some fancy dress is okay but please check with us first that it is appropriate and remember you'll have your buoyancy jacket over the top.

What happens if the weather is bad?

In extreme cases, from a health and safety point of view, we may have to look at postponing the event as a last resort. In any case, we'll take advice from our instructors. Please always dress for the weather forecasted and bring a change of clothes as well as bottled water.

What if the river is low?

If we have low rain fall leading up to the event, the river may be low in places. This means we may have to hop off our boards and have a little scramble in places. All part of the fun!

Do I need to bring my own kit?

We are assuming you have your own board, paddle, and buoyancy jacket unless you have told us otherwise and have reserved them with us. There are a limited number available so please contact us if you need to reserve kit, at fundraising&events@prospect-hospice.net.

I can no longer attend, what do I do?

Please let us know if you can no longer attend by emailing fundraising&events@prospect-hospice.net or calling 01793 816161. We will cancel your place. Unfortunately, we cannot transfer your place to someone else - they would need to register as normal. If you have sponsors for the event, please ask us for the process of what to do.

Can I bring my dog?

We're sorry, dogs are not allowed on the boards. Dogs are allowed on a lead with the spectators. Please clear up after your dog and make sure they are comfortable at all times.
