When is the next Starlight Walk?
Saturday 24 June 2023
Where will it start and end?
The walk will start and finish at Swindon Town Football Club.
What will the route be this time?
There will be a 10km and 15km route on the evening. The routes are circular so all walkers will also finish at the venue. When finalised, the routes can be found on this page.
When should I arrive?
If taking part in the 15km route, registration will be open from 7.45pm. Please arrive no later than 8pm to sign in.
If taking part in the 10km route, registration will be open from 8.15pm. Please arrive no later than 8.30pm to sign in.
What time does the walk start?
If taking part in the 15km route, you must first register as above to be able to take part and will leave at 8.30pm.
If taking part in the 10km route, you must first register as above to be able to take part and will leave at 9pm.
What should I wear?
Everyone will be provided with their own Starlight Walk t-shirt which can be collected in advance of the event or on the night (see below info). Lots of walkers wear fancy dress in bright/glowing colours – some people even create costumes with their own lighting installations. The theme this year is festival fever, so think Glastonbury, hats, colours and bejewelled make up. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Remember to wear comfortable shoes and plenty of layers, including a waterproof coat just in case.
T-shirt collection
Arrangements for t-shirt collection prior to event night are currently being finalised and we will keep you updated on this.
You don’t need to bring anything with you and will be able to collect for your team if taking part in a group.
Please note you will be given the size you requested upon registering – we are not able to exchange t-shirts for different sizes until the night of the walk to ensure everyone is able to have the size they ordered first of all.
Can I park at the venue?
Yes, you can park at the County Ground car park.
Do I have to raise sponsorship?
Yes please. We ask that all of the people taking part in the walk make an effort to collect sponsorship. This is a fundraising event and, while we receive some corporate sponsorship toward the cost of putting the event on, the registration fee helps to cover the administration and further resource costs associated with the event. Therefore all funds raised through sponsorship for our events go towards the overall £7.5m that we have to raise ourselves to be able to continue providing our services to patients, as well as support to their family members.
How much sponsorship should I raise? / Do I have to raise as much sponsorship if I’m part of a group?
The suggested minimum sponsorship per person is £100. However, we appreciate that groups of walkers may be asking the same friends and family to sponsor them and it may therefore be unreasonable to expect quite as much sponsorship per person where groups are concerned. We therefore just ask that groups try their hardest to raise as much sponsorship as they are able.
Can I bring my dog? Yes, dogs are welcome to join you on the walk given that you think they are capable and will not be in any discomfort.
I’ve collected in all of my sponsorship money. How do I donate it?
If you’ve collected in all of your sponsorship money already then feel free to return it, with your completed sponsorship form, to the information desk at the event start location.
Alternatively, if you’re still gathering donations you can bank it and return it all in one go via any of the methods below. You can then send in your sponsorship form separately but make sure it includes your full name and address along with the event name.
– Via the donate page on our website – By cheque made out to ‘Prospect Hospice’ – Via your online fundraising page – Directly to our bank account (please ask for details)
Will I need cash on the night?
We will be offering some great goody bags to purchase which include neon face paints and other fun Starlight treats – we will accept cash or card on the night.
Can children take part in the walk?
As the walk is quite a distance and takes place at night time, it can be strenuous and tiring for children hence our promotion of the event to adults. However, if the child and their parent or guardian feels that the child is able to participate then he/she may join them for the walk but will need to be accompanied throughout. We recommend only children over 12 should take part.
The child will also need registering as a participant and will receive a t-shirt, however, as this is an adult event the only t-shirt sizes available are adult sizes.
Can I register/sign up on the night?
You are able to sign up for the event on the night. As you will have less time to collect sponsorship towards the fundraising event, we ask for a slightly higher registration fee of £50 to cover both your registration fee and in lieu of fundraising. You are more than welcome to continue to collect in sponsorship on top of this though.
Where can I read the terms and conditions?
You can read these here.
I have a question that isn’t covered here. Who can I ask?
Please contact us on 01793 816161 or email fundraisingandevents@prospect-hospice.net and we’ll be happy to help.
