Assistant Shop Manager

This opportunity is perfect for someone who is organised, hands on, proactive, creative and driven to join the team at our Clive Parade shop on Cricklade Road in Stratton.

At Prospect Hospice, we provide vital end of life care to patients living with a life limiting illness. We also support families and loved ones through their difficult journeys. The care we provide makes an immeasurable difference and it is all free of charge to patients. As a local charity, we need to raise vital income to enable us to care for more people in our community and that is where this role comes in.

Hours: 15 hours per week (two days a week, Monday to Sunday, including some bank holidays)

What is the role?

We proudly have 15 shops in Swindon, Marlborough and Pewsey. Each shop has a manager and assistant shop manager who are paid members of staff supported by a team of volunteers.

This role assists the shop manager to achieve agreed sales targets to maximise income. Your job will be important in ensuring the shop meet its sales targets by continuing to achieve high standards of customer service, fantastic visual merchandising and smooth-running day-to-day activities. In the absence of the shop manager, you will take full responsibility for the management of the shop.

A key element of role will be to provide supervision and support to all shop volunteers, and to ensure adequate volunteer cover is in place during opening hours by managing a rota of volunteers.

It is a requirement of this position that the assistant shop manager will cover the shop in the absence of the shop manager. This means that full time hours will be necessary when the manager is away on annual leave or sick leave. You will also need to be flexible to cover other shops in our catchment area when needed.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven retail experience
  • Experience of supervising staff, ideally from retail or voluntary sectors
  • Excellent customer services and organisational skills
  • Thorough understanding of target driven accountabilities
  • Experience of stock control management
  • Product display design and cash management skills
  • An understanding of trading standards and health and safety requirements

It would also be great if you have:

  • An understanding of charity/voluntary based sectors would be beneficial
