Communications Officer

At Prospect Hospice we provide vital end of life care to patients living with a life limiting illness. We also support their families and loved ones through their difficult journeys. The care we provide makes an immeasurable difference and it’s all totally free of charge to patients. But, as a local charity, we need to promote ourselves, communicate what we do and fundraise in order to achieve that. And that’s where this role comes in.

What is the role?

Reporting to the communications and marketing manager, you will be responsible for delivering high quality website content to drive an engaging and informative website. You will have experience of using a wide range of social media in the business environment and have written exciting copy for internal and external facing publications. You’ll also be able to amend printed material through Adobe’s InDesign software.

As a proactive member of the communications team, you’ll have a varied role working with teams across the hospice including our clinicians, fundraisers and volunteers to provide the required support to enable them to perform their roles to the highest standard.

You’ll be a pivotal member of the hospice team, building relationships internally to find the interesting stories that highlight our work and you’ll embrace innovate ways to encourage our supporters to engage with the charity.

About you:

  • Strong written and spoken English, with excellent communications skills and the ability to tailor content to a wide variety of audiences
  • Knowledge and experience of using social media in a business environment
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Good knowledge of MSOffice and Adobe software including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience of communications planning and high-quality delivery
  • Experience of working in a communications role using skills in content development, media relations, social media and the production of corporate communications materials
  • Knowledge and experience of web content management systems

A little bit about us

We are an independent hospice charity supporting a community of 300,000 people in Swindon, Marlborough and north Wiltshire, and the villages of Lechlade and Fairford in Gloucestershire. We are the only dedicated provider of specialist end of life care services within the area. The hospice’s multi-professionals teams support people in the community, in care homes, at the Great Western Hospital and at the hospice in Wroughton. Support is also extended to the families, friends and carers of our patients.
