Healthcare Assistant – Inpatient Unit

We are looking for a caring and compassionate Healthcare Assistant who is looking to make a difference and join our friendly, supportive team to provide exceptional care and emotional support to patients with life limiting illnesses and their families.

Hours: 24 hours per week over 7 days (2 x 12 hour shifts per week on a rota to cover days and nights) Shift enhancements apply.

What is the role?

You will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of person-centred care to patients and those that matter most to them, maintaining a homely, supportive and stimulating inpatient environment to improve or sustain the patients’ quality of life. You will also assist our trained nurses in all aspects of basic nursing care.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, highly motivated and display excellent communication skills, along with a passion to deliver first class palliative care to our patients. A thoughtful, compassionate approach and lots of empathy is essential. Above all, we are looking for strong team players with a positive, can-do attitude.

Our Healthcare Assistants work collaboratively as part of the wider hospice clinical team across both the inpatient and community settings to respond to the needs of our patients. Flexibility to work across both teams is required.

About you:

  • Minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Care or Care Certificate
  • Good communication skills and a strong empathetic approach
  • Able to plan and manage own workload and activities
  • A passion for getting things right & aiming for excellence
  • Strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Basic IT skills

It would also be great if you have:

  • Commitment to developing skills and knowledge of the care of the dying person and family.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of boundaries in relationships with patients and their families.
