Kids Starlight Walk
Location: Swindon Town Football Club, County Road, Swindon, UK
Start: Sunday 17th October 2021 @ 5:00pm
For those not old enough to take part in our flagship Starlight Walk event, we’ve introduced a mini version to our events calendar so everyone can join in and fundraise for the hospice.
Much like our Starlight Walk, young walkers will gather together at the start and set off on their sponsored walk around a carefully selected and safe 5km route. Everyone will be finished early enough to be tucked up in bed for a good night’s sleep before school the next day – we expect this to be no later than 7.30pm.
Entry fee is £12 per person, however, if you book before 31 March 2021 you’ll reserve your place at the early bird rate of £8.
If you want to see the fun we had earlier this year, check out our gallery below. We had a wonderful time with all these families dressed to impress as they walked in aid of the hospice.
Before signing up, please click here and read our terms and conditions.
When is the event?
Sunday 17 October 2021
What time will the walk start and finish?
Registration will open at 5pm and we ask walkers to arrive no later than 5:45pm to be able to register in time to start our warm up at 6pm then set off. We expect the event to finish around 7.30pm.
Where will the walk start and finish?
We will be registering everyone and starting the walk from Swindon Town Football Club, County Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 2ED.
Is there car parking?
Yes. There is car parking on site.
What do I do when I arrive?
Upon arrival, lead bookers (the person who completed the online registration for your group) should go straight to a registration desk (any desk) with the people they have registered. Give the group name or alternatively, give the lead bookers name at the registration desk and you will be signed in and each given a wristband which must be worn at all times.
What is the registration fee for this event?
Child and adult registration costs only £8 each at the early bird rate which is available until 31st March, it is then £12 for both adults and children thereafter.
Registration Date Closes Sunday 10 October at midnight.
Are their age restrictions for this event?
The walk is open to children of all ages and one adult can accompany up to four children. An adult is classed as anyone over the age of 18 years old.
How far is the walk?
The walk will cover a 5km circular route around Swindon’s town centre.
Will refreshments be available?
Yes, upon finishing the walk, there will be a cake and drink waiting.
Do I need to raise sponsorship?
Yes, this is a fundraising event and we therefore ask all children to try and raise a suggested minimum sponsorship of £50 each. While we receive some corporate sponsorship toward the cost of putting the event on, the registration fee helps to cover the administration and further resource costs associated with the event. Therefore all funds raised through sponsorship for our events go towards helping us provide our expert care and support in the local community.
How can I raise sponsorship?
You can find a copy of our challenges fundraisers guidelines booklet here. This booklet includes lots of fundraising tips and advice.
There is a downloadable sponsorship that you to use here.
When does registration close for this event?
Registration will close at midnight on Sunday 10 October 2021.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, dogs are welcome to join you on the walk given that you think they are capable and will not be in any discomfort. If you are bringing your dog, please be aware that you are fully responsible for any mess they make at all times, whether this is on the venue grounds or during the walk.
It the event suitable for those in wheelchairs?
The route is mainly on paved areas so it should be suitable given that you’re aware of this and comfortable with the distance of the walk.
Can I register/sign up on the night?
Due to the venue capacity, spaces will be given on a first come first served basis so we recommend registering for the event as soon as you can. However, if you are unable to do this before registration closes on Sunday 10 October 2021, you will need to contact us the week before the event as we will be monitoring the people signed up against capacity at our start venue.
For children registering on the day, because they will have less time to collect sponsorship towards the fundraising event, we ask for a slightly higher registration fee of £30 per child to cover both their registration fee and in lieu of fundraising. Children are more than welcome to continue to collect in sponsorship on top of this though.
What should I bring with me?
Appropriate clothing – We can’t wait to see all walkers wear their brightest outfits and getting into the spirit but please do remember, whether you dress up or wear normal clothing, to make sure you wrap up warm. With most of the event being outdoors and following into the early evening it’s essential to wear a coat, preferably with a hood or layers to ensure you are prepared for any unexpected bad weather. Pending the weather forecast, it may also be essential to bring umbrellas – parts of the finish venue will be sheltered but not fully.
Mobile phones – In case of emergencies, please make sure you/your guardian have a mobile phone on you. There will be first aid available and marshals to report into who will be in communication with the first aid team. However, please bring fully charged mobile phones should an emergency situation arise.
Water bottles/flasks – Please bring your own water with you to drink while walking. We will have filling stations at the start and finish venue should your bottles/flasks need replenishing.
Cash – There will be merchandise (face painting, glow sticks/bracelets, goody bags…) on sale so you may wish to bring your purse or wallet in case you want to purchase an item before you set off – we recommend bringing cash.
Cakes – This isn’t obligatory but any extra donations of cakes on the day will mean bigger portions and possibly second helpings! There will be a cake donation drop-off station at Swindon Town Football Club on the day, please email us in advance at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know what you plan on bringing.
