A local charity has postponed their well-loved Starlight Walk event until 2022

Prospect Hospice has made the difficult decision to postpone their Starlight Walk event, which was set to take place in June this year.

Amy Francombe, events and community manager at Prospect Hospice said, “Here at the hospice, our community is always at the heart of everything we do and each decision we make. With the ongoing uncertainty around coronavirus, we’ve decided to postpone our Starlight Walk event this year.

“The good news is we already have a date in the diary for next year’s Starlight Walk, Saturday 25 June 2022. You can register your interest in this event on our website www.prospect-hospice.net/starlight and we’ll let you know when the event is live.”

The charity’s flagship annual fundraising event raises a phenomenal amount each year from those who take part and all the money raised by entry fees and sponsorship goes directly towards supporting the care of local people living with a life-limiting illness, and their families.

The hospice has continued to provide their free-of-charge services to patients and their families throughout the pandemic even though their income dried up almost overnight back in March 2020. Having to cancel the event this year due to Covid-19 will have a huge impact on the hospice’s finances.

To make sure they can continue to offer the same standard of care to all of those that need it in the local area and to bridge that gap in funding, the charity has launched a ‘Thanks A Million’ campaign.

The campaign will see hundreds of local people acting as champions for Prospect Hospice through holding a fundraising page and encouraging friends and family to donate to it. The campaign will only be live for 36 hours over 25 and 26 April and some of their champions are getting involved by doing their own starlight walk.

Amy continued, “A number of our past starlight walkers will be carrying out their own socially distanced starlight walks with a group of up to five friends over the 36 hours the campaign is live. We’re providing them with goody bags and team Prospect Hospice t-shirts and during their walk friends and family will be donating to their fundraising page.

“There are various ways you can take part in the campaign, doing your own socially distanced starlight walk, making a donation, or having a fundraising page. However you choose to support us, it will really make a huge difference to Prospect Hospice at this time.”
