Charity takes popular music festival online

June 2020

A local charity is taking one of its most popular events online this summer in the hope of reaching more people and raising much needed funds.

Prospect Hospice already knew that their bi-annual Avebury Rocks music festival wouldn’t take place this year but with all other events cancelled the charity has been in touch with local performers to pull together an online version for supporters.

Amy Francombe, events and community manager, said: “Avebury Rocks has been a popular event ever since its inception. Started by supporters, it is one that festival goers mark in their calendars as soon as the date is announced and has really grown its following over recent years.

“With all our events cancelled we’ve been looking at ways that we can not only raise vital funds, but give something back to our supporters during this time and this event seemed the perfect one to recreate online.”

Armchair Avebury Rocks takes place across the weekend of 20-21 June from 12pm live on Facebook and will not require anyone to leave their home. Instead, music lovers will be able to enjoy a live stream of entertainment from a variety of acts. Much loved artists that will be taking part in the live event across Facebook include Gaz Brookfield, Eric Walker and Splat the Rat.

The event dates may be familiar to hospice supporters thanks to another popular event that was due to take place that weekend. Ms Francombe said: “Prospect Hospice’s annual Starlight Walk was meant to be taking place on Saturday 20 June but has had to be postponed due to Covid-19. However, with Armchair Avebury Rocks coming live to your homes the same weekend, you can still support the charity and have great fun rocking out to some of the best local artists around. With it being Father’s Day on the Sunday as well, we can’t think of a better way to spend a family weekend together!”
