Role – Volunteer eBay lister

Volunteer Hours:   4 hrs per week or more, between 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday-Friday

                                       (Flexible hours)

 

Department:           Retail – eBay, based at the Wroughton Distribution Centre

 

Role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us increase our retail sales on online marketplaces. The role involves researching, valuing, photographing, and creating accurate and appealing listings to sell the items on eBay and Gumtree.

Core Role Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Prepare items for photography – including steaming and displaying clothing and textile items, and cleaning jewellery, collectibles, and antiques when required.
  • To take visually appealing photographic images using a camera phone and use photographic editing software inbuilt within the listing tool Shopiago.
  • To research and value items using online analysis tools and draft appealing, accurate and clear listing descriptions using our listing tool Shopiago that will lead to a high sales conversion rate.
  • To comply with manual handling and health and safety requirements to ensure their own safety and that of colleagues. Physically fit and mobile and able to lift and move stock and boxes safely.
  • To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • To undertake all required initial mandatory training within 14 days of the taster session, and ongoing as required.
  • Attend meetings if required and contribute ideas to the ongoing development of the eBay team.
  • Act as an ambassador for Prospect Hospice, promoting its services, values and philosophies.
  • Advise the team manager of any absences, preferably giving at least 24hrs notice.
  • To adhere to the organisation’s GDPR policy involving personal data and treat all information with the utmost confidentiality at all times.

  • Is comfortable with buying items on eBay and other online marketplaces (Vinted, Depop, Gumtree, Discogs, Amazon Marketplace,  ABE Books etc)

  • Have knowledge and experience in selling specific categories (Clothing, Homewares, Collectables, Furniture, Books, Music etc) on online sales channels

  • Create visually appealing photographic images and able to use photo editing software

  • Retail/ Customer service knowledge would be a bonus

  • Good communication skills

  • Reliable and able to volunteer for 4 hours + per week

  • Acts professionally, is trustworthy and confidential at all times

Training will be provided for all relevant aspects of this role, and support will be given by the Ecommerce Manager and relevant colleagues.  In addition, volunteers will be required to attend a core induction day at the main Prospect Hospice building.  Out of pocket expenses (e.g. mileage) can be paid & claimed as relevant.

 

Health and Safety

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), it is the responsibility of every volunteer to take care of his/her own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by his/her acts at work.  This includes co-operating with the organisation and colleagues in complying with health and safety obligations to maintain a safe environment and particularly by reporting promptly any defects, risks or potential hazards to a member of staff.
