More than 670 walkers lit up the streets of Swindon on Saturday night as they took part in Prospect Hospice’s annual Starlight Walk, raising over £108,000 so far to support local hospice care.
The event, proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising, saw supporters gather at The Deanery Academy before walking under the stars in memory of loved ones, in celebration of life, and in support of the charity, which provides vital end-of-life care to people across Swindon and north east Wiltshire.
Now in its 17th year, the Starlight Walk continues to be a much-loved community event. Walkers adorned with glowing accessories, personalised t-shirts created a moving sea of light and remembrance along the route.
One participant, Sarah James, took part for the third time in memory of her mum, who was cared for by the hospice.
“The atmosphere is so uplifting. Walking with others who’ve experienced loss and knowing we’re helping more families get the care they need – it means everything. The hospice was there for us when we needed them most.”
As the evening unfolded, the spirit of togetherness and the generosity of the community shone brightly, lighting up the night in a truly special way. Starlight walkers were cheered on along the route by members of the public, with passing cars tooting their horns in support.
Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive at Prospect Hospice, shared his thanks: “Seeing so many people come together to support our hospice was incredibly moving. The funds raised will make a real difference to local patients and their families. We rely on the generosity of our community, and the Starlight Walk is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.”
The hospice team is still counting donations, with fundraising continuing over the coming weeks. All funds raised will go directly towards providing free specialist care and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses.
